- the future of England's biggest and oldest Fringe Festival Friday 25th May - Sunday 10th June 2001 It's Bath Fringe's 20th Birthday this year, though the spirit of independent, alternative and popular arts events in the city goes back far further than that. Like any birthday, there will be things you expect and others you wouldn't (but nothing you're dreading...). Some new ideas, some old ones got bigger, better, and more realised, but when you look it's still fundamentally the same. Bath Fringe remains dedicated to bringing in special acts and events that local promoters know you want to see, and to helping Bath-based arts groups with that little something extra to celebrate what they do. Like any party, we want you to do as much of it as you possibly can, and so we try to keep prices low and include free events. We can only do this because of the volunteers who step forward year after year, and the staff at the various venues who put themselves out even more than usual. Bath Fringe is run by one part-time worker for part of the year, with a bit more specialist help during the build-up and the festival itself; much though we sometimes wish it could be different, it runs on goodwill as much as money. ...Not that we could do it without the cash: we are as ever more grateful than would be good reading to B&NES for their support in finance, information and networking, and to our sponsors and supporters. Organisations and companies involved in supporting or presenting these events show by doing so that they really do care for the quality of life in this city, in turn they deserve your support when you're shopping for goods, services and entertainment. This festival thrives on ideas and input from local artists and local people. We hold public meetings with that in mind every year, we're accessible by email and telephone (NB: can be a bit slow at some times of year), and we always need volunteers.
