Rory McLeodRory McLeod is a self-taught one-man world music phenomenon who has travelled across five continents during the last 12 years, sustained by a natural troubadour's talent for weaving magical musical storytelling spells, accompanied by his own bizarre solo orchestra of distinctive instruments. Window Art Centre 8pm It has become difficult to hold a Fringe and not invite Rory McLeod - chances are if we didn't book him he'd be along in his van looking for people to play to anyway. Last year he distinguished himself by delivering a memorable and deliriously exhausting three hour set one night and then turning up unannounced at other events over the next few days: that's what kind of a guy he is and it's a measure of how much he fits in with the ideals of Fringe and westcountry festival culture: the alert will have caught him playing on every stage of Glastonbury a couple of years ago except the Pyramid & the Dance Tent, and including several that it took some kind of genius to find in the first place. There isn't another performer on earth like him, effortlessly overturning barriers between genres and cultures with only a guitar and a pair of tap-shoes, and really you owe it to yourself to find out what the fuss is about. His performances always sell out and you are advised to book and be early for this one. |
Moles Battle Of The Bands 1998In this fourth heat four bands, including 4 Parts Water and Giv' Way, battle it out for the first prize of time in Moles' studio, in front of judges from major record companies' A&R departments. Moles Club |
ManRayPete Oxley made a heck of a name for himself hereabouts with the New Noakes Quartet, sublime hand-crafted guitar jazz. This new band is still more of the same. The Bell 9pm |
