| Young Dance companies are scrambling after contemporary club
culture like it was the only way of legitimising their artform (discuss...) but they're
all far behind c&e, who as a group were born in the clubs back in '94 and have
consistently been ÔtheÕ company selected by the most popular accessible mega-club
promoters. They've performed at The Big Chill, Megadog, Phoenix Festival, and collaborated
with names as close to the heart of what's really cooking as DJ Food, Squarepusher and
Global Communication, as well as more conventionally contemporary performance showcases. 'Liquid Showgirl' turned a whole lot of people on when they showed it [when?] [fringe] and the new piece, 'A Cabaret of Cruelty', as well as linking to this year's Fringe cabaret mania, should do the same. Any show that promises tortured torch-singers, OAP Osmonds on Acid and sadistic spoonplayers, all at Gabba/action movie speed and intensity, with the music to match - well it beats a night with the same old DJ chart-fodder and even the beer at Window is cheaper... |
