This Year's Bath Children's Arts Festival is the wildest yet, a veritable
Glastonbury for Kids, with facilities which put a lot of grownups' festivals to shame. For
a start, this year's is fully provided with disabled loos, signers, a range of tactile
activities specifically designed for people with visual impairment, and a quiet space
complete with massage for when it all gets too much out on the field. Themed around The Global Village, you can visit the world in an afternoon, and if you don't get all the way round you can always come back for more the next day. Change your life for an hour with costumes, songs and face-painted disguises of every continent, or get stuck into serious crafts like African Batik, making a Chinese Dragon or other East Asian crafts with experts from the Bath-based museum, Polynesian mask-making, all of which should appeal to the older kids as well as the youngsters. The field will be decorated with totem poles and banners from local schools, you can go and live in a Tipi, hear stories from as far apart as Japan & Scotland or any one of the dozens of wandering minstrels, or wear yourself our dancing to the RinkyDink Sound System or playing cooperative games. All the electrical needs of the festival will be provided by wind, sun, and pedal power: solar powered cinema or roundabout, kid-powered sound-sculptures and drums. As for the list of performers, that's so long we won't even start it here. There is no bigger day out - except there's two of them. Makes me wish I was 10 again. |
Groovy MovieThe Groovy Movie is usually housed within its own mobile solar powered cinematic venue and promotes the work of new film makers & animators. Tonight, in conjunction with Kaboodle Cabarets, we feature an eclectic selection of fine British film: screenings of new work by young and diverse film makers preceded by the cult classic, 'Withnail And I'. Fireraisers' Theatre Company Andy and Edie - Inside Andy Warhol's FactoryShare the fun and the frenzy, the glamour and the heartbreak of being famous for fifteen minutes. The most tragic casualty of Andy Warhol's Factory was the young, beautiful heiress and 'superstar' Edie Sedgwick. This is multimedia theatre, including video projection and the music of Bob Dylan (one of Edie's lovers, he wrote 'Just like a Woman' about her), The Velvet Underground and Lou Reed, to mention a few. Writer/director/performers Anton Binder and Polly Wiseman bring alive this story of narcissism and desperation amid the '60s American Dream with a witty script to sexy, stylish and occasionally outrageous effect. "The most energetic physical theatre in town." Daily Express The Rondo Theatre 8pm |

Bristol Performing Artists Group presents Multi-media Triple Bill.'Going out alone' (Tom Marshman) - follows the experiences of one evening's recreation. A collage of storytelling from recorded and perceived events - a reflection of human behaviour and the attraction of anonymity in our time. Ever had a night like this one? 'Guest House' (Jessica Hoffman, Paul Clarke, Jessica Marlow) - A collaborative performance starting from intimate recorded interviews which ask the interviewee to describe a room and what happens/happened there. Can a house come to life? 'Smile' (Lizzie B., Blue, Simon Van Der Linde) - An exploration of human roles and role-play, dealing with love, relationships, sex, money and the loss of individuality. Who are we, who are you...without your job, lover and 'role in life'? Window Art Centre 8pm |
